Filing and Prosecution

The major avenue to worldwide patent protection nowadays is the PCT route. We specialize in initiating PCT national phases in Japan - including translations from various languages into Japanese - at highly competitive rates. Translations into or from Japanese during the filing and the examination phase are done by linguists who are trained and qualified in the relevant technical field.

Examination at the Japan Patent Office is, according to widespread opinion, overly long and costly and often involves filing an appeal. It is, however, quite feasible to achieve a grant by the JPO in the first instance!

Our team of Japanese patent attorneys and technical specialists are well-versed in handling even the most obscure office actions of the JPO. We move applications forward through the pitfalls of local examination procedure with competent and foresighted advice to obtain an early grant. Moreover, to achieve as wide a scope of protection as possible given prior art and your business interests, we actively initiate contact with the JPO and observe flexibility in our problem-solving approaches.

Our communication style is best described as hands-on, uncomplicated, and responsive; and it ensures that you remain in control and fully informed about the state of proceedings. Our fee structure for filing and prosecution is straightforward, transparent, and will not leave you at odds with your accounting department!
