Surprising Trademark Registrations
OTOKO NO KO
The Japan Patent Office recently granted the registration of the trademark “OTOKO NO KO" (no. 5437080, in Kanji and Kana). Otoko no ko is a Japanese subculture term from manga and anime that means a cross-dressing male who looks just like a female. The mark covers, among other things, fanzine book fairs and cosplay events. The owner of the mark sponsors fan events in Japan.
